Ambassadors Lunch 2017

Prostate Cymru held its annual ambassadors lunch on Friday 3rd March at Cornerstone, a new community venue on Charles Street in Cardiff city centre. Over 150 people, including fundraisers and local Welsh businesses, joined the charity for the enjoyable afternoon which started with a drinks reception courtesy of Molson Coors.

Chairman of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru Brian Harries BEM acted as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Prostate Cymru Chairman Andy Thomas gave a short presentation raising awareness of prostate diseases and shared what the charity had achieved during 2016. Andy also introduced the charity’s newest campaign #SaveTheMalesInWales.

Event attendees helped raise money during the lunch by participating in the raffle, auction, silent auction and a rugby ball sweep in which one lucky guest per table won a Rhino rugby ball signed by Prostate Cymru’s rugby ambassadors.

Following two out of three courses of the delicious meal by Spiros Caterers, the charity’s annual fundraising awards were presented with a little help from Prostate Cymru’s Head of Awareness Dai John, Ambassador Ray Giles and President David Brace OBE. Alys Lloyd, Team Sir Martyn Thomas and Simon Moffett were presented with the awards for Young Fundraiser of the Year, Fundraising Team of the Year and Fundraiser of the Year respectively.

Following the fundraiser awards, the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru made a presentation of funds raised in the county to Prostate Cymru and Isaac Myers, a student from Cardiff University was awarded the Ray Murray Travelling Fellowship by the Murray family to help fund his elective study in urology.

Another highlight of the afternoon was a question and answer session featuring rugby ambassadors Derek Bevan, Ray Giles, Bob Norster, Graham Price MBE and Brynmor Williams. Hosted by Eddie Butler, the ambassadors discussed refereeing decisions, the impact of social media on the sport and shared some memories of their rugby tours.
