Day didn’t start well. Found my glasses (Oakley) broken – must have stepped on them when I got up for a wee in the middle of the night (one of the effects of altitude!)
Travelled into Quito by bus. We all got kitted out with equipment for glacier climbing – hard helmets, ice boots, ice picks.
Bob Norster had a big head, but eddie’s head was off the scale. Finally found him a helmet that fitted – but only just.
We then went on a walking tour of Quito to help us acclimatise. Visited the Angel of Quito, which again offered great views over the city.
We did a little shopping – Panama hats were popular. I bought a red alpaca jumper, on John Edward’s advice. Haggled the owner down from 185 to 163 dollars, great deal.
Had lunch in the main square, with some traditional equadorian singers entertaining us.
Back to Rumiloma.
The group had a great dinner at Rumiloma and then a briefing from Ossy.
Bad 12 hours starts for me – felt unwell, very cold, diarrhea, abdominal pain. Missed the briefing talk and dinner. Bed at 6pm and awoke 6am next day.
