Enjoy an afternoon in the company of Terry Walton and a panel of gardening experts for Prostate Cymru. It is the perfect opportunity to find answers to those gardening queries driving you crazy or simply to listen to the amusing anecdotes of our panel. The event will take place at 1:00pm on Friday 13th September at Cottrell Park Golf Club, with afternoon tea and a drinks reception.

Prostate Cymru ambassador Terry Walton is a gardening expert. He was given his first allotment when he was eleven and has been at the same allotment site for over fifty years. Since the late 1960s Terry has been an organic gardener using only natural methods to grow his flowers, plants and vegetables. Terry has shared his approach to gardening since retiring in 2001 as a contributor on The Jeremy Vine Show on BBC Radio 2. He is also a regular guest on BBC Radio Wales and has written two books: My Life on a Hillside Allotment and The Allotment Almanac. In August 2012 Terry was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which was a massive shock to many of his family, friends and followers. Terry is dedicated to helping prostate cancer sufferers within Wales by sharing the story of the discovery of his own cancer and regularly raises awareness of prostate cancer as a member of the charity’s awareness team.

Joining Terry on our panel are Reg Moule, Lynne Allbutt and Gareth Davies. Reg Moule’s formal gardening training took place over a five-year period at Pershore College of Horticulture. Since leaving there in 1972 he has worked in the nursery and garden centre business, spending more than 35 years as a nursery and garden centre manager. Reg is also a familiar voice on BBC Radio presenting weekly gardening programmes on both BBC Hereford and Worcester and BBC Radio Gloucestershire. In April 2014 the R.H.S. presented Reg with a commemorative medal in recognition of his 42 years’ service to horticulture.

Lynne Allbutt is a gardener with a passion for the outdoors and is often described as a champion for Mother Nature. Lynne pens a weekly column for Wales’s National newspaper, the Western Mail, also writing for The Tindle Group of Newspapers (The Abergavenny Chronicle). In 2014 Lynne became the first person to run the width of Wales barefoot and has since written her autobiography Barefoot and Before.

The last member of our panel Gareth Davies’ name is synonymous with one of the most beautiful flowers. Gareth is Chairman of Rhondda Rose Society and the Vice-Chairman and a national judge of the Rose Society UK. A regular contributor to BBC Wales and ITV gardening programmes before the millennium, including top shows such as ‘Real Gardens with Monty Don’, Gareth is now a frequent speaker for the Royal Horticultural Society.

Tickets for the event are priced at £25 and the price includes a drinks reception and afternoon tea. For more information or to purchase tickets please contact info@prostatecymru.com or telephone 02920 340029.
