Rotary Ride 2019

Event: Rotary Ride 2019

Date Held: June 16th, 2019

Organiser: Rotary Ride

Venue: Across Wales

Contact: Rotary Ride

The Rotary Ride will be taking place over the Father’s Day weekend, 15th and 16th June 2019, supporting prostate cancer charities: Prostate Cymru, Prostate Scotland, Prostate Cancer UK and the Irish Cancer Society. Prostate Cymru is the nominated charity for rides taking part in Wales.

The national event will see hundreds of cycling activities taking place across Great Britain and Ireland as Rotary clubs and districts invite riders, from beginners to experienced cyclists, to saddle up and help raise funds for research into the disease.

In the UK and Ireland, one in eight men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives and over 10,000 men die every year from it. That equates to one man every hour. Worryingly, it is anticipated that by 2030, prostate cancer will be the most commonly diagnosed cancer. This means there is a significant need to increase awareness, treatments and research. While the survival rate is improving, there is still a need to encourage early diagnosis as this can lead to more successful treatment.

There are a range of rides that clubs can organise including fun family rides, more challenging rides for enthusiasts or static rides where participants use exercise bikes, a great alternative to riding outdoors if the weather is bad!
If you are a Rotary club in Wales and organising a ride for Prostate Cymru, please let us know. If you are interested in attending a ride and fundraising for Prostate Cymru, please contact your local Rotary club to find out more.
