Originally established in 2009 and rebranded in 2016 the Wales Veterans Football Association is backed by the Football Association of Wales and the South Wales Football Association. The organisation aims to positively promote the game of association football and endeavour to provide competitive playing opportunities for everyone over 40 years of age. The Wales Veterans Football Association boasts around 1200 registered players, ranging in age from 45 to 73, who compete regularly in the over 40, 45, 50 and 55 age group leagues.

The association use the power of sport to help improve health and fitness levels and combat the effects of solitude and isolation amongst the over 40s age group. Keen to support charities and raise awareness of health issues that can affect their members, the association have chosen to hold a game in aid of Prostate Cymru in mid December.

Forty-eight players between 45 and 65 will take part in the matches which kick off at 2:00pm at the prestigious Dragon Park in Newport. Dragon Park is the exciting state of the art development ground for Welsh football. Prostate Cymru’s awareness volunteer Simon Marriott will be attending the event to raise awareness of prostate issues including benign prostate disease and prostate cancer.

In addition to fundraising activities on the day, the association are also accepting donations on their JustGiving page.
