Are you ready to experience touching the sun?
Challenge yourself against the rugged volcanic regions of wildest Ecuador… the nearest point on Earth to the Sun. Fourteen days of action, adventure and incredible experiences based on the Equator. We’re looking for participants and sponsors to help raise funds for a pioneering surgical robot to be installed in Wales.
Why are we organising this amazing event?
Prostate Cancer kills 550 men in Wales and over 11,000 men in the UK every year. Da Vinci Robotic Radical Prostatectomy is widely regarded as the new gold standard in the surgical treatment of early prostate cancer. It facilitates minimally invasive surgery, and as such, it is a cancer cure with reduced morbidity.
Robotic prostatectomy is widely available in the Western World, England, Europe, Australasia and the USA, but it is not available in Wales.
In England, robotic surgery is available on the NHS. Many welsh men are having to travel to English hospitals and pay up to £15,000 for this treatment.
Men in Wales are therefore not getting a fair deal and have a reduced choice when it comes to treating prostate cancer.
‘Touching The Sun’ aims to raise funds to establish a Da Vinci Robotic facility at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. This will provide an all-Wales service.
Wishing Bob Norster and his colleagues every success in their very worthy charitable endeavours to ‘Touch the Sun’ this coming July! Sincere best wishes and pob lwc from everyone associated with the Myristica Trust
