On Thursday, June 19th, a group of 8 dedicated golfers took on the incredible 24-Hour Channel Golf Challenge, a marathon journey across eight counties and eight golf courses, playing nine holes at each all in aid of Prostate Cymru.
The challenge began at 4:30 am at China Fleet Golf Club in Cornwall, with the team teeing off under the break of dawn. From there, they travelled course to course before concluding their epic day at the iconic Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club at around 10:30pm in the evening.
For Ian Booth and Andy Thomas, this challenge was about more than golf, it was a deeply personal mission.
Andy Thomas is a retired consultant urologist who founded the charity with the late Ray Murray to help fund research, equipment and innovation in Wales.
Ian’s journey with Prostate Cymru began during his time as Centenary Club Captain at Pyle & Kenfig.
A routine GP visit for something unrelated led to a PSA test, which ultimately resulted in a prostate cancer diagnosis—a complete shock, as Ian had shown no symptoms and was only 57 at the time.
Inspired by Ian’s story and determined to make a difference, the duo took on this ambitious challenge to raise both funds and awareness for Prostate Cymru.
With over £29,000 raised so far, the challenge has been a resounding success.

Every mile travelled, every hole played, and every swing taken was a step toward helping more men detect prostate issues early and get the support they need.
