Brecknock Shearers Raise £30,700 for Prostate Cymru

A group of six veteran sheep shearers from Brecknock, have raised an incredible £40,000 through a one-day fundraising event in support of Prostate Cymru and the Brecknock RWAS.

The event, aptly named “Shearing is Caring,” took place at the Cnewr Estate and saw the experienced team shear a staggering 1,141 sheep in just eight hours.

The team, William Workman, Howell Williams, Eifion Morgan, Ian Matthews, Nick Bishop, and Hefin Price, came together not only to showcase their skill and endurance, but to shine a light on a critical health issue affecting men across Wales: prostate cancer.

With rural communities often facing late diagnoses due to limited access to healthcare or reluctance to seek medical advice, the event aimed to raise both money and awareness for the cause.

“Shearing is Caring” drew significant attention and support from the local community.

Over 60 volunteers helped bring the event to life, and many more turned out on the day to show their support, watch the shearing, and donate generously.

The £30,700 for Prostate Cymru will go towards essential awareness campaigns, support services, and education about prostate health throughout Wales.

The event served as a powerful reminder of how community action and a shared commitment to wellbeing can come together to make a lasting impact.

Prostate Cymru extends its heartfelt thanks to the six shearers, the volunteers, and everyone who donated.

Their efforts not only raised vital funds but also helped spark life-saving conversations among men who may otherwise suffer in silence.
