Alys’ Trio of Events

Alys Lloyd from Porthcawl has set herself three challenges to fundraise for Prostate Cymru this summer. Alys signed up initially with friends for The Big Walk 2016, Prostate Cymru’s annual event in which participants walk 30 miles from the Principality Stadium in Cardiff to Kenfig Hill Rugby Club. However, Alys decided to challenge herself to do more and extend her fundraising efforts. Two weeks after The Big Walk, Alys is hoping to run the JCP Swansea Half Marathon in under two hours. Alys’ final event will be the Severn Bridge Half Marathon in August.

Alys is hoping to raise awareness of Prostate Cymru and its work through her fundraising. Alys has shared her reasons for fundraising with us, “I have chosen to raise money for Prostate Cymru as it is a charity that does so much for so many affected and it isn’t acknowledged enough! Over the last few years I have heard so many stories of family friends being hurt and struck down with the C word….. But as the story unfolds the reason of why the cancer is so bad or has spread is because it started in the prostate, they just didn’t know it! The healthiest of men have been affected, in some cases younger men!

After seeing my father work closely with the charity he has inspired me. If he can organise and ride from Porthcawl to Paris then I can help raise money too for all those who have been put through the pain and to help those who could be put through it. Prostate cancer doesn’t get the same funding or acknowledgement as others. We need to stop being silent. Make sure our loved ones get checked, make sure they check themselves and let’s raise awareness of this cruel disease!”
