Welcome to Prostate Cymru

Cor Aduniad | Spring Showcase

Côr Aduniad will be performing their third charity performance at The Parkway Hotel on Easter Sunday 20th April from 7pm.

The programme has several themes running through it. The second half is given over to musical theatre with songs from a range of musicals including ‘Wicked’, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘Dreamgirls’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Some of our well known, signature choral pieces will be performed again, as well as a number of brand new pieces. The beginning of WW1 is commemorated with two new songs, and there is a group of love songs including Billy Joel’s ‘And so it goes’ and ‘Moonriver’. The choir is lucky to have many excellent soloists who will also feature in a number of songs ranging from Mozart to Sarah McLachalan.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £7 concessions (over 60 and under 16) and are available to order by emailing coraduniad@gmail.com.

There will be a raffle on the night with over 10 brilliant prizes, and CD’s of past concerts will also be on sale. All profits will go to Prostate Cymru, a charity we feel very strongly about.

Cor Aduniad has been born from Llantarnam School choir. Llantarnam school senior choir ran for 21 years, directed and conducted by Mr Geraint Davies. For choir members, it was a highlight of our years in school and so when I posted out on Facebook about the possibility of organising a reunion concert, A LOT of people showed a massive interest, and we are likely to have a choir of upwards of 80 past members, from throughout the life of the choir (some members are reaching their 40s now, some are still in school) and people are travelling from all over the country to be able to attend, which is obviously a testament to the choir, and to Geraint.

In the 21 years of the senior choir running we have recorded 4 CD’s, gone on 7 tours abroad; singing in places such as Barcelona Cathedral, St Marks in Venice, St Davids hall (to name but a few), we have also sung at the National Eistedfodd, performed on the radio and done many charity performances. It really meant a lot to the students who were part of it, and to their families and friends, and the choir was well known within the community after singing regularly at the annual choral festivals and carol services.

This went out in the lead up to our very first charity concert held last Easter, this was a memorial for Mr Barrie Shankland and all proceeds went to the RNLI and The British Heart Foundation, his chosen charities. We then renamed ourselves as Côr Aduniad (Reunion Choir) in advance of our Christmas concert which was held again at The Parkway Hotel, in aid of Scope and The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. In both concerts we raised nearly £2000 for our charities, though we hope to beat this for Prostate Cymru by adding in sales of CD’s from past concerts.
