Santander 2 Lisbon

Event: Santander 2 Lisbon

Date Held: September 6th, 2020

Venue: Santander, Spain

In September 2020, over 40 cyclists will be taking on a 580 mile cycling challenge for Prostate Cymru, the leading prostate health charity supporting men with benign prostate disease and prostate cancer. The cycle will start in the port city of Santander, situated on the north coast of Spain and finish in Lisbon, the coastal capital city of Portugal. The large team includes Prostate Cymru’s Chairman Andy Thomas and ambassador Ray Giles amongst a number of regular supporters.

Several members of the team have previously completed multiple cyclothons organised by Ray Giles and Tap It Out Cycling Club over the last decade such as Porthcawl to Paris, Barcelona to Monaco and Nice to Rome to name a few. The organisers received a special recognition award from Prostate Cymru at the charity’s Ambassadors Lunch event earlier in 2019 to show appreciation for the contributions made to the charity for over a decade.

Unlike some charity cycle rides, all participants on the ride pay the cost of the trip including a bespoke kit personally to ensure that all fundraising goes directly to Prostate Cymru. The team are raising money on JustGiving.

The team are really keen to get on their bikes for the charity. Participant Christian Jones from Artico Environmental said, “Having undertaken the previous cycling challenge in September 2017 for Prostate Cymru, a 550 mile ride from Nice to Rome which was an experience of lots of pain and fun along the way, I jumped at the opportunity to push my body and mind again for such an important charity as Prostate Cymru and assist them in carrying out their life saving work!”
