NFU Mutual’s Newport and Builth Wells agencies have announced a significant combined donation of £15,798 to Prostate Cymru, the leading prostate health charity in Wales.
These funds, provided through NFU Mutual’s national ‘Agency Giving Fund,’ are specifically designated to facilitate the charity’s 2025/2026 PSA testing campaign, focusing on the unique health needs of the Welsh agricultural community.
The funding arrives at a critical time as Prostate Cymru works to address the fact that 1 in 8 men in Wales will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
In Newport, Agent Gareth Griffiths has spearheaded a comprehensive partnership that extends into the local community through the sponsorship of grassroots golf in Llantrisant & Pontyclun, and Prostate Cymru’s charity golf day in Radyr, alongside support for the Blue Tie Ball and The Big Trek to Namibia.
Gareth Griffiths, NFU Mutual Agent for Newport, said, “Farming is often a solitary profession, and men in our rural communities can sometimes put their health on the back burner. At NFU Mutual Newport, we believe it is vital to support the work Prostate Cymru does in reaching farmers where they are. We want to help ensure the men of Wales have access to PSA testing and health information is a priority for us. We are proud to play our part in a partnership that truly saves lives.”
Thanks to the Builth Wells agency’s £7,899 donation, supported by a matching contribution from the Newport Agency, the branch has now raised over £40,000 for Prostate Cymru.
Much of this support has been anchored in the agency’s long-standing presence at the Royal Welsh Show, a venue that allows the charity to engage directly with the farming community.
Owen Pugsley, Head of Commercial Operations at Prostate Cymru, said, “With our 2025 awareness campaign costs exceeding £100,000, this support is vital. It allows us to attend every major agricultural show in the Principality, facilitating face to face conversations that break the stigma around prostate disease.”
This partnership ensures that as Prostate Cymru moves toward its 2026 Walk of Wales, rural and farming communities remain a central focus of health outreach.
By bringing awareness and testing facilities to agricultural hubs, the charity and NFU Mutual are working together to ensure that men across Wales, particularly those with a family history who face a 1 in 3 risk, are equipped with the information they need to seek early medical advice.
