Welcome to Prostate Cymru

Oliver Ladbrooke-Davies to swim the Channel for Prostate Cymru.

This week Oliver Ladbrooke-Davies will be taking on the huge challenge of swimming across the Channel in order to raise money for Prostate Cymru

His 21 mile swim will start anywhere between the 22nd – 29th July at any time, day or night.

Speaking about what inspired him to do this event Oliver said, “Well I ran 250km across a desert a few years back and raised a few quid. Doing anything less than that would probably be an insult to your hard earned cash…so I’m swapping sand for sea and am going to try and swim to France.”

This is a challenge of incredible feat with less people having swum the channel than have reached the summit of Everest.

His solo swim will start near Shakespeare’s Cliff or Samphire Hoe (in between Folkestone and Dover), and finish near Cap Gris Nez (between Boulogne and Calais).

Oliver said, “I’ve done quite a few endurance events over the years (mainly land based) but swimming the channel is something I’ve aspired to do for a long time. Last year I finally stopped procrastinating, bit the bullet and signed up to do it. Training during a pandemic has presented plenty of hurdles which, accumulatively, have probably left me a little underprepared, but knowing that I’m doing this for a great cause will help make up for that on the big day.”

He continued, “Whilst there are so many worthy causes out there to fundraise for, especially after the last year or so, prostate cancer is sadly something that has impacted my family and I’m delighted to be helping Prostate Cymru in a small way.”
