Sharon Havard, an experienced Senior Practice Nurse with 40 years of clinical expertise, has joined Prostate Cymru as one of our Specialist Nurse Practitioners.
Sharon joins our Specialist Nurse, Gaynor Newton, as a vital part of the Awareness Team, providing a reassuring voice for men and their families across Wales.
Together, they are dedicated to addressing the health worries and concerns of our community, ensuring no one in Wales has to face these challenges alone.
Qualifying as an RGN from UHW Cardiff in 1985, Sharon has spent four decades dedicated to the health and well-being of communities across South East Wales.
Her career is a testament to her commitment to nursing excellence. From teaching the next generation of healthcare professionals on the access to nursing course at Coleg Gwent to her most recent 16 years as a Senior Practice Nurse in Primary Care, Sharon’s clinical background is as deep as it is diverse.
She holds a BSc Hons in Community Health Care Studies and a Special Practice Qualification, making her a formidable advocate for patient health in our local surgeries and clinics.
Sharon isn’t just joining us as a professional; she is a passionate campaigner. She has long been a vocal advocate for screening services, encouraging men across Wales to engage with the All Wales screening services.
One of Sharon’s primary goals is to champion the addition of specific prostate screening to the national programme.
She understands the unique risks facing our nation, where 1 in 5 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer too late for a cure, and she is determined to ensure that early detection becomes the standard, not the exception.
Sharon’s dedication to Prostate Cymru started long before her official appointment.
A volunteer fundraiser for over a decade, she became deeply involved with the charity in 2024.
She didn’t just stop at paperwork; she participated in the 2025 PSA testing campaign and even completed the gruelling The Big Trek to Namibia in September ’25.
When she isn’t saving lives or trekking deserts, Sharon finds balance through walking, upcycling, and crafting. Her energy, empathy, and expertise make her a perfect fit for our “story-led” community.
Please join us in giving Sharon a huge welcome. Diolch, Sharon, for everything you do!Welcome to the Team: Sharon Havard
