Robert Williams Rotary Social Route Success

On September 4th, Robert Williams completed a sponsored Rotary Social Route for Prostate Cymru.

Robert, a member of Wrexham Rotary Club,  joined the National Rotary Cycle this September and chose to be a fundraiser for Prostate Cymru.

The 41 mile ride will include stop offs to greet various members of the rotary club, after they’ve been unable to meet due to shielding and social distancing measures.

Speaking about the fundraiser Robert said, “As the youngest member of Wrexham Rotary Club, and the only active cyclist, I decided that rather than arrange a public ride, it would be a good idea to cycle around club member’s houses – making it sociable after these times of social isolation.”

Speaking about the inspiration for this fundraiser, Robert said, “We lost one of our club members, Peter Lockley, to prostate cancer earlier this year so I will be cycling past his Saab specialist garage, Higher Oak, on Wrexham Industrial Estate in memory.”

He continued, “So often the omnipresence of prostate cancer can lead us to forget victims actually die. Luckily my brothers in law survived prostate cancer.”

We are so grateful for anyone who decides to fundraise for us and would like to thank Robert for this fantastic fundraiser that will help us raise the funds needed to fulfil our core aims of raising awareness and supporting treatments and improving equipment for prostate diseases.

The charity sector has been hit hard by recent events and as a result we have lost a significant amount of fundraising this year due to lockdown restrictions and social distancing measures. If you’d be interested in fundraising for Prostate Cymru, click here to be taken to our fundraiser page.
