It is walking boots at the ready as 2020 sees the return of the Prostate Cymru, Big Walk, which will take place on Saturday 25th July this year.
The popular event is now in its 7th year and has established itself as a firm favourite with fundraisers wanting to participate in an exciting physical challenge.
The route, which begins at the famous Principality Stadium, takes walkers on an iconic 26-mile journey taking in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan countryside, before crossing the finish line at Kenfig Hill RFC, Bridgend.
Once again, a short course alternative (13 miles) is available, which starts at the Principality Stadium and finishes in Cowbridge, making the event accessible to family members of all ages and levels of fitness.
It is expected that this year’s walk will attract a record number of participants. Walkers will be keeping their eyes peeled for the famous faces at the start line, with big names such as Sam Warburton OBE, Max Boyce MBE and Warren Gatland OBE having previously supported the event.
With plenty to celebrate Prostate Cymru have revealed a new Big Walk logo which will be showcased in the lead up to and on event day.
Speaking about the launch, Event Manager Chris Leyshon said “The Big Walk is one of Prostate Cymru’s most popular events and the feedback year on year is brilliant”.
“It gets the balance right of being challenging yet achievable and we hear more and more about the enjoyment people get out of training together, so there is a good social dimension to the event too”.
“We will of course be hosting the annual finishers party just moments from the finish line for walkers and their friends and family to enjoy. All those that sign up will also receive a Prostate Cymru t-shirt to wear on the day which will display the wonderful new event logo”.
Fundraising is of course at the centre of the day, with all entry funds going to improve awareness, support training of medical professionals, and treatments for prostate health. Prostate health is an issue that will affect 1/8 men in the UK. Participants are asked to generate a minimum of £50 sponsorship and all money raised stays in Wales.
