Welcome to Prostate Cymru

Carol Vorderman MBE joins Prostate Cymru as their FIRST female ambassador

We are thrilled to announce Carol Vorderman MBE has become the first female Ambassador for Prostate Cymru.

Carol Vorderman, who grew up in North Wales, is a patriotic Welsh native and we are excited to be welcoming her to the Prostate Cymru Ambassadors team.

Known for her charity work as the first female Honorary Group Captain in the Royal Air Force as Ambassador for Air Cadets, Patron of CLAPA (her brother was born with cleft lip and palate), Ambassador for the first Child of Wales Awards, and a Prince’s Trust Ambassador, we look forward to Carol supporting our fundraising events throughout the year.

Carol Vorderman was the first woman to appear on Channel 4 when it began in 1982 and remained on Countdown for 26 years. Over nearly 40 years, she has hosted numerous TV shows (including the Pride of Britain Awards for 20 years) to become one of the most successful and well-known TV presenters in Britain.

Discussing being a celebrity ambassador for Prostate Cymru, Carol said,
‘About 20 years ago, my manager was diagnosed with Prostate cancer, he survived but over the following years I found out a lot about the disease. Many of my friends who I grew up with in North Wales are of the age now where prostate cancer is of serious concern. Therefore, it is the least I can do to repay the love and kindness always shown to me, to be able to join with Prostate Cymru to highlight awareness about this disease which affects so many of our men.”

With Prostate Cancer being the number one diagnosed cancer in the UK and 1 in 8 men in Wales being affected by the disease it is so important for us to get the word out and help raise awareness.

Our ambassadors help fundraise for Prostate Cymru by participating in some of our various events over the year and supporting us as we raise awareness about prostate disease.

Chief Executive of Prostate Cymru, Tina Tew said, ‘We are delighted to have Carol Vorderman on board as our first female ambassador. Carol’s high-profile celebrity status and her energetic passion for Wales will be a huge boost for everyone involved at Prostate Cymru. We’re looking forward to working closely with her and continue our mission to ensure men in Wales have the best possible access to information, support and treatments.’

With Carol on our team, we can’t wait to see what the next year holds as we go from strength to strength and help save the “males in Wales”.
