Pembrokeshire Club to Kickstart Tashwedd

The Cylch Cinio Hwlffordd (the Haverfordwest Welsh Dining Circle) and the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru have joined forces to launch their own ‘Tashwedd’ for Prostate Cymru this Saturday 1 November.

The concept, which is based on the hugely successful ‘Movember’ and plays on the Welsh word for November – Tachwedd – invites men from all across Wales to grow facial hair in return for sponsorship. All money raised by the group’s Tashwedd will stay in Wales and go towards introducing new, state of the art equipment for treating the disease as well as raising awareness of prostate health throughout Wales.

The Chairman of the Welsh speaking Cylch Cinio Hwlffordd, Simon Moffett, developed the campaign and has joined forces with pubs across Pembrokeshire to encourage people to get involved. Simon said: “It was actually an accidental process. I heard the club would be receiving an awareness talk by Prostate Cymru Trustee John Daniels and thought it would be in keeping to give something back. My wife suggested Tashwedd and we thought it would be great to do something where all the money gets spent in Wales.”

Simon, who is a voluntary speaker for Fairtrade Wales, has already enlisted four Pembrokeshire pubs to support his cause: The Pembroke Yeoman, Bristol Trader, The Vine Inn and the Rising Sun. People can donate at these ‘Tash Taverns’ or collect a sponsor form and take part themselves. Even better, they can turn their pub into a “Tash tavern” too! Donations can also be made direct at www.prostatecymru.com or via the Prostate Cymru Facebook page or by emailing [email protected].

Prostate cancer annually claims 11,000 lives here in the UK, with 32,000 new cases diagnosed each year. Prostate Cymru is a largely voluntary run charity that is dedicated to fighting this cruel disease.

Trustee and Secretary of Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru, John Daniels, said: “We are delighted that Simon and the rest of the members at the Cylch Cinio Hwlffordd have chosen to support us and in such a light hearted and fun way. We appreciate the effort they have put in to organising the event and will be supporting them, and everyone that participates, throughout Tashwedd.”
