Royal Porthcawl Golf Club continues its commitment to charitable causes, with Prostate Cymru being one of the two chosen beneficiaries for the 2023/24 period.
In the past year alone, the golf club has supported the charity through various fundraising initiatives.
Members rallied together under the leadership of the Men’s Captain, raising an impressive £3.5k. The generosity continued as the Captain of Ladies’ Golf hosted an exclusive wreath making workshop on December 11th, an event open only to members. This festive gathering not only brought joy to participants but also contributed over £1,100 to Prostate Cymru.
The collective efforts of 52 golfers on December 30th culminated in the final tournament of the year, specifically organised to raise funds for the two chosen charities.
Noteworthy contributions came from individuals such as John Wall of Wall to Wall Wines, who collected corkage on wine, Elwyn Roberts, who personally donated £300, and Peter Evans, offering a unique on-course lesson for three that fetched an impressive £700 in an auction.
Andy Ingram, recently voted President of the Welsh Golf Union and former Walker Cup Captain, secured the auction bid.
Royal Porthcawl Golf Club further added to the generosity by donating two free fees for the event.
Nigel Edwards, a three-time Walker Cup captain and player, contributed six raffle prizes, including two Tommy Fleetwood caps.
The event was organised by Mark Phillips, a dedicated member who works for Audi Monmotors, and the total amount raised reached an impressive £1,850.
Brynmor Williams, Gareth Davies, Gareth Edwards, and Rhys Davies proudly serve as Prostate Cymru ambassadors and are esteemed members of the Royal Porthcawl.
Looking ahead, Royal Porthcawl Golf Club is poised to continue their support for the charity.
In 2024, they will participate in the Dawn Till Dusk event on June 13th, where members will play 72 holes throughout the day to further contribute to the ongoing mission of Prostate Cymru.
This commitment marks an annual event that began in 2022, raising over £7,000 in its inaugural year.
