The Mayor of Porthcawl raises funds for Prostate Cymru

Each year, the Mayor of Porthcawl oversees a fundraising committee, The Mayor of Porthcawl’s Commmunity Fund. In May 2019, Councillor Graham Walter announced that his chosen charities for the year would be Prostate Cymru, Porthcawl’s Veterans Club and Porthcawl Museum. Twelve events were held throughout the year, some of which shared the proceeds between the chosen charities and some which were dedicated to Prostate Cymru.

Throughout the year, the Porthcawl Mayor’s Community Fund raised £1550 for Prostate Cymru, with the figure set to rise once they complete their final fundraiser, postponed due to lockdown restrictions. These events included a fish and chip supper night at Finnegan’s where Prostate Cymru ambassador, Ray Giles attended to give attendees information about what Prostate Cymru do as a charity and why our work is so important to men in Wales. Other events throughout the year included a male voice choir Christmas concert at the Globe Inn, a family friendly beach race and a curry night at the Jaipur restaurant.

The final fundraiser planned was to be a Mayors Community Awards night at the Hi Tide on March 27th. Though it has been postponed, the event will go ahead in the future and we wish them the best of luck.

Local clubs and societies also very generously donated including the Women’s Guild, Chamber of Trade Porthcawl and Hi Tide, we would like to say thank you to everyone who donated and supported The Mayor of Porthcawl’s fundraising this year.
