This month Carmarthenshire Friendship Group supported committee member Brian Evans as he completed The Big Walk in aid of Prostate Cymru.
Over 600 walkers have taken part in The Big Walk completing 26 miles throughout the whole of July to help raise both awareness and funds about prostate disease in Wales.
Our Friendship Groups are vital for Prostate Cymru in helping raise awareness about prostate disease. The teams engage with their local communities to support Prostate Cymru, help increase public awareness of prostate disease, and encourage and support fundraisers in their community.
Speaking about The Big Walk, Brian Evans said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the experience raising money to support the amazing work that Prostate Cymru does. It’s a charity that is very close to us as a family, having gone through treatment myself in January 2019. This has been the first time I’ve taken part in a fundraising event and I have to say I am overwhelmed with the support and generosity of family, friends, local businesses and The Carmarthenshire Friendship group.”
Talking about his final few miles, he said, “My last two walks I was joined by Carmarthenshire Friendship Group, friends and my children and grandchildren. It has been a fundraiser that I’m proud to have taken part in and thank everyone for their kind words of support, generosity and company. Diolch yn fawn iawn”
During their walk, Brian Jones, Managing Director of Castell Howell, supported the Friendship Group and offered encouragement, walking some of the distance with them.
Carmarthenshire Friendship Group Chairman, Deryc Rees, said “The Big Walk has been fantastic this year. I’m very proud of our Friendship Group and our committee member Brian for their hard work this month and it’s great to be back together fundraising for Prostate Cymru.”
It’s fantastic to see our Friendship Groups getting involved and we are so grateful for the hard work that they do throughout the year to help us save the males in Wales.
