Narbeth and Whitland Rotary Club raise £500 for Prostate Cymru.

Narbeth and Whitland Rotary Club raised money for Prostate Cymru this September with socially distanced cycle event, II Giro de Pembrokeshire.

Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club are constantly looking at innovative ways to donate funds to good causes and local charities in need of help and this year have organised a series of virtual or socially distanced fundraisers.

The event raised an incredible £500 and was presented to Pembrokeshire Friendship Group in early September.

The organiser, Rotarian David Hayward, was delighted with the response of cyclists in these difficult times.

He said, “The 50-mile route was sold out very quickly and so we ended up making more room for other cyclists wishing to do a 50 miles route in the second wave. We were very careful to get as much paperwork done online as possible and temperature tested everyone who took part.”

President Chris Williams, is seen presenting the cheque to Prostate Cymru Trustee, and Haverforwest Rotarian, Brian Harries.

Also present is Club Secretary Sue Pridmore, organiser Rotarian David with his bike, and Rotarian Ian Gravell.

Prostate Cymru trustee, Brian Harries, said, “Over 300 people from Pembrokeshire have received the robotic prostate operation at The Heath in Cardiff in the 4 years it has been in existence. Fundraising like this is so important for Prostate Cymru to keep improving medical equipment and we are so grateful to the club for their continued support.”

The charity sector has been hit hard by recent events and as a result we have lost a significant amount of fundraising this year due to lockdown restrictions and social distancing measures and we aren’t through this yet.

We are so grateful for to the Narbeth and Whitland Rotary Club for their fundraising.

Two more initiatives that Narberth & Whitland are currently running are Charity Calendars “Then and Now” of Narberth Town and Whitland Town.

These are available online at www.nwrotary.co.uk and in key outlets in both towns.
